Hoots, Howls, and Hollers – December 21, 2021

Megan Mosby
Executive Director

Happy New Year to each of you!

This Year @ Liberty – December 21, 2021

The intake total for the year 2021 is 12817.

I’m posting this on my favorite day of the year, December 21, the Winter Solstice.  Actually, the main reason I love this day is that it is the shortest day (and the longest night) of the year. I suppose if I lived in Anchorage I’d probably favor the Summer solstice, but I’ve been living here in Phoenix for 33 years now so, not wanting to learn another whole set of bird biologies, I guess I’m stuck with the long night version of this Druid celebration. But as of today, the photoperiod grows longer each day, and as it does the animals will begin obeying their biological imperative of reproduction and the cycle begins anon. Liberty will reset the tally of the injured and orphan baby birds and mammals and once again we’ll be doing our best to help keep the balance. Amid political polarization and endless versions of viruses among the human population, the work of caring for the native denizens of our state whose only goal is to see another sunrise, no matter how long or short the daylight lasts.

Continuing a tradition from many years ago, I’m posting a year-end-review slide show of some of the memorable photos from TW@L during the past twelve months in a mostly chronological order.   Please enjoy this presentation of
