I have several things to talk about today.
- Thanks to all volunteers who came to the Volunteer Appreciation picnic yesterday. It was the best attended ever, and as always, the food was off the charts fantastic…and pretty much all gone! Thanks to Carol Suits, Volunteer Coordinator who orchestrated the event!
- A huge shout out to Kathy Edwards for spearheading our Unique Boutique, which was a great success for a first-time event. All of her hard work came to fruition and put dollars in the coffers…more cash to care for more critters.
- And, then there is Laura Hackett, who wears many hats, and wears them all well. Her on line auction was such fun, and also a big success for another first time happening. Somehow I ended up with two fun t shirts….and I don’t often wear t shirts….but the bidding sparked my latent competitiveness, and there you go.
- Check the store in our lobby the next time you are visiting with us. Everything with a red dot is half price and ready for Holiday shopping.
There are even more new t shirts (not red dot unfortunately) that I think all of you will find enticing…even I found some shopping there and remember, I don’t wear t shirts.
- Lastly, it is the end of the year, and I feel compelled to remind you that it is a great time to remember Liberty Wildlife and our superior job of fulfilling our mission. See the statement below from our development staff…
Consider a stock transfer as a “Stocking Stuffer” gift to Liberty Wildlife!
The stock markets have been soaring in 2017. If you have investments that are flying at all-time highs, you may consider taking a moment at year-end to make a special type of gift to support Liberty Wildlife’s mission.
Liberty Wildlife accepts gifts of stock. By making a stock transfer directly to Liberty Wildlife, you avoid any applicable capital gains tax on those investments. And as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, Liberty Wildlife gets to utilize the full value of the transferred stock gift for our conservation and education efforts.
And, at least for this year, you will be able to deduct the full value of the transfer as a charitable contribution.
Act fast before December 31, 2017. The U.S. Congress is looking at changes to the tax law that may take away this valuable incentive next year.

This Week @ Liberty – December 04, 2017
It’s been a few weeks since I put out a full update and a lot has gone on so I’ll keep the verbiage to a minimum and get to the pictures (which, let’s face it, is what most people want to see anyway!) Just to recap, we did a lot of educational shows, had a few events, and took in some wonderful animals – all while providing the care for which we have become known around the valley and state. I have begun to note how many pictures are associated with each item so be sure to not only scroll down, but swipe left and right to see everything!

A major fundraising event was held recently, the fist of its kind at Liberty Wildlife. It was the Unique Boutique and featured loads of one of a kind items for sale. The weather was perfect and the attendees seemed to enjoy themselves and finding some unique treasures to purchase, knowing the proceeds were going to benefit Liberty Wildlife. We want to especially thank volunteer Kathy Edwards who produced the event for us.

Several education programs and events happened recently, some at the facility and some as outreach. One was at a local public library, while another was at an event commemorating Veteran’s Day. One of the best attended public programs to be held at the Liberty facility was weekend show entitled “It’s all about the food”, explaining among other things why birds migrate and their various success strategies for hunting their prey.
We also had a group of “Teen Trackers” visit and tour the facility.

Not long ago, we took in a prairie falcon that presented multiple gunshot wounds. Our new x-ray machine provided the tool to confirm this and to locate the numerous pellets that perforated the bird. Dr. Stephanie Lamb was then able to surgically remove the metallic projectiles, but unfortunately this beautiful bird later succumbed to his injuries.

Last week a group from the University of Miami, Ohio, came to rent the facility for a national meeting. The event was catered and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves at Liberty! On the same night, the Ed team held their weekly training session in the intake area, proving we are as versatile as we are accommodating.

Yesterday we held our annual Volunteer Appreciation picnic and it was a total success! The weather was perfect and the crowd was the biggest yet. Staff members Alex, Laura, Carol and Megan coordinated with several other volunteers to provide a wonderful Autumn get-together for all volunteers. We always hope to provide an event where the people who keep this organization running can come together and share an afternoon without counting mealworms or cutting up frozen rodents. New Volunteer/Staff t-shirts and copy of the new Wing Beats were distributed. All in all, it was a fine day, capped by the release of a first year red tail hawk.
