SUMMARY:The Jerusalem Birds Observatory: 25 years for birds and people
DESCRIPTION:Join visiting speakers Amir Balaban and Alen Kacal for a free presentation at Liberty Wildlife. \nAmir Balaban is the Director of Urban Nature Conservation for the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel and co-founder of the Jerusalem Bird Observatory \nAlen Kacal is the Director of the Jerusalem Bird Observatory \nThe Jerusalem Bird Observatory was the first official urban wildlife site in Jerusalem and in Israel. This 1 1/5 acre site in the middle of Jerusalem was developed to be a magnet for the millions of migrating birds that pass over the city twice a year. The site includes trees and bushes that provide food year round as well as a wonderful pool where birds can drink and bathe – everything that a tired migrating bird could wish for.\nThe JBO conducts an ongoing monitoring and research program through an active banding center. The data collected is used to manage and further develop the site to the benefit of birds and wildlife. In addition to its conservation work and bird research\, the JBO serves around 50\,000 people a year in educational programs for schools\, teachers and families. Participants learn about the research\, bird migration and conservation while engaging in activities such as bird watching\, science projects\, nature art and photography. \n(Note: Our open hours at from 9-11am with regular admission. If you are coming for the presentation only\, admission will be free from 10:45am on)
